And no, you don’t have to be “advanced” to take it – it’s designed so you can go straight into it after the PADI Open Water Diver course. The Advanced Open Water Diver course helps you increase your confidence and build your scuba skills so you can become more comfortable in the water. This is a great way to get more dives under your belt while continuing to learn under the supervision of your PADI instructor. This course builds on what you’ve learned and develops new capabilities by introducing you to new activities and new ways to have fun scuba diving.
You’ll hone your skills by completing five adventure dives that introduce you to:
- Underwater navigation
- Deeper water diving (typically anywhere from 18-30 metres/ 60-100 feet)
- A sampler of three more Adventure Dives of your choice
The Fun Part: Your Choice

Deep Sea Divers Den has operated from Cairns, Australia for over 30 years, making them not only the largest but also one of the longest established Cairns diver training centres. Divers Den not only traines divers they also operate 2 liveaboard diving vessels and 1 day vessel. OceanQuest and Taka are the liveaboard vessels with Reefquest operating as a high speed day trp vessel.
OceanQuest is a large stable liveaboard vessel visiting the most outer reef easterly of Cairns. OceanQuest is a 36 metre catamaran over 3 decks. With 4 double suites, 18 twin share and 1 quad share cabin, we have the capacity to sleep 48 customers overnight on the reef in unrivalled comfort and luxury. All rooms have en-suite facilities, air-conditioning, as well as TV’s (see virtual tours below). There is a large lounge area on the wheelhouse deck with a bar where you can relax and kick back after a long days diving. The main deck has a large dining room capable of comfortably seating 48 passengers.
Taka was built to explore the more remote reefs north of Cairns, Taka Dive Adventures has been operating liveaboard dive trips for over 18 years to the Cod Hole, Osprey Reef in the Coral Sea and the Ribbon Reefs. Our new purpose-built dive vessel was launched in January 2004 setting a higher standard in dive travel.
